OCEANPORT, N.J. — Four local business owners will stand-up paddleboard (SUP) from Oceanport Paddle Club to the southern tip of Manhattan 30 miles away on Saturday, June 5, to raise money and awareness for several causes.
The paddlers — Chris Macioch of the Oceanport Paddle Club, John Majeski of SERVPRO of Eatontown/Long Branch and SERVPRO of Hackensack/Little Ferry, Jeremy Julio of Last Bite Mosquito and Tick Control and Bryan Zinski of Summa Love, Surfing and Yoga — came up with the idea as a way to challenge themselves physically and mentally, all while supporting organizations they believe in.
“We don’t think a paddle following this route has ever been undertaken,” Majeski said. “It will be a very difficult paddle battling winds, currents, rough water and shipping traffic in the Hudson River, but it will be worth it to raise funds and awareness for our important causes.”
Majeski is paddling for the Kortney Rose Foundation, an organization dedicated to eradicating pediatric brain tumors. Julio is supporting the Lyme Light Foundation, which supports children and young adults with Lyme disease and raises awareness about the illness. Macioch has chosen CASA of Ocean County, an independent, non-profit organization, whose mission is to advocate for the best interest of the vulnerable children in foster care. Zinski is paddling for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Coastal & Northern New Jersey, who aim to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

Dear Paddlers, Boaters, Twin River, Raritan Bay and New York waterways community. We cordially invite you to send us off and/or greet us along our journey. We will be mustering at Oceanport Paddle Club 10 Riverside Ave, Oceanport, NJ (The Marina at Oceanport) on June 5th, 2012 at 8:45 ish. First stroke at 9:30! We will casually paddle out through the Shrewsbury and then get on pace at 10:40AM between Gunning and Sedge Island. There is talk of people leaving cars at Sandy Hook where a lot of people will exit so that they can drive their vessels back. Paddling against that current back is not advisable. Weather forecast is ideal at this point and we pray they remain as predicted!Based on forecast and current speed the team should get to the tip of Sandy Hook at around 12:30 PM. From there it will be a casual pace of about 15+ minute miles with a direct course to the Narrows. Pacing and timing the NY waterways so as not to arrive too early avoiding uphilling the EBB!!!We hope to see supporters along the way. https://oceanportpaddleclub.com/nj2nyc2021/#opc2nyc#oceanport#nyc#manhattan#sup#paddleboard#shrewsburyriver#newjerseytonyc#oceanportpaddleclub#summalove#summalovesurf#servpro#servproofeatontownlongbranch#lastbite#lastbitemosquito#opc#teamwork#riverlife#paddleboarding#jointhemovement#casaofocean#navesink#shrewsbury
